SUBJECT : United States Senate Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------
Greetings! I am ChinaGlaze, the new President Pro Tempore, and I am thankful that President Woodrow, and Vice President ScottBlack have allowed me to take this position, and I will do my best to make the Senate a fully functional branch!
As a member of the Senate, you will be required to come to a one of the five sessions provided for Congress.
Daily Session – This a normal session held where we discuss bills that come from the various committees within the Senate. These Sessions are held every weekend, and a quorum of 12 Senators are needed for the Session to commence.
Extraordinary Session - This a normal of the Senate that is called upon by the President or Vice President (of the United States), that is after the ‘sine die adjournment’. These sessions are random, and may or may not be called upon ahead of time by the President, but ALL Senators are required to attend.
Joint Session - When the Senate and the House meet together to conduct formal business, to hear an address by the president, or to count electoral ballots. This can also be a session where the House and the Senate discuss a bill that does not look identical and cannot be passed by Congress.
Closed Session - Closed sessions of the Senate, sometimes referred to as secret sessions, are used to debate confidential information, such as classified material dealing with national security, and for deliberations during impeachment trials. Most of our business is conducted in the public eye now, but there are still some OPSEC things that are conducted in closed sessions.
Special Session - When the Pres. Pro Temp. convenes a session after Congress has adjourned sine die, it is called a special session.
The U.S. Senate is tasked with the ability to review bills, conduct the impeachment trials of important figures of the U.S. (President, Vice President, Judges), and if needed, hold Joint Sessions/Meetings with the House of Representatives to fix any bills that are not identical in want. As Senators, you are responsible for representing your state well, for there are few second chances provided by the Senate if you are caught misbehaving or acting out of character. All Senators are to follow the Rules and Regulations set in place by the Senate Rules Committee, and failure to follow these rules will result in the dismissal of your office.
If you have any questions about the role of the Senate, and the duties that you are to complete before you apply, please don’t hesitate to send me a PM on the forum or catch me on the client!
